APILUS ELECTROLYSIS

Apilus Platinum Pure.
We use the Apilus Platinum Pure. Apilus electrolysis systems have shown repeatedly to be more effective, more comfortable, and faster at achieving permanent results than any other hair removal method.
Apilus is a hi-tech, high speed & very comfortable electrolysis system. There is only a tingle and virtually no skin reaction. Apilus is suitable for all types and colours of hair on any part of the body. Because it is a computer-assisted system, it allows a unique “tolerance test”, which enables us to adjust the current to your level of sensitivity.
Hair grows in three growth stages which are called: Anagen, Catagen, and Telogen. The hair follicle can only be permanently destroyed during the Anagen phase (active growth stage). This is because the hair is attached to the dermal papilla (blood supply) which supplies blood and oxygen to the hair. Electrolysis destroys the dermal papilla so that hair can no longer grow.
When hair enters the other two phases (Catagen and Telogen) it detaches from the dermal papilla gradually falling out of the follicle. Treating the hair with electrolysis during the Catagen and Telogen phase is much less effective because the hair is not being nourished and therefore not actively attached to the blood supply.
Electrolysis is most effective during the very early Anagen phase. When new hair begins to surface the skin, it is the best time for treatment. This is because the dermal papilla is at its peak of growing the hair. By treating the dermal papilla with electrolysis at this point, the treatment is the most effective at achieving permanent hair removal. Hair grows at different stages on different parts of the body. It’s important to have regular treatments in order to treat hairs during the active stage (Anagen Stage).

YES, electrolysis has been around for over 100 years without any adverse effects. There is no risk of scarring. A pre-sterilised disposable needle is used for every treatment.
It does require a certain level of commitment from the client as it can take from 6 months to 2 years to complete a treatment, depending on the area and the lifestyle requirements, with time and cost also sometimes being the restrictions.
On the face the skin can vary from pink to red depending on the skins sensitivity in most cases the skin returns to normal within 15-30 minutes. If the face has been tweezed or waxed excessively your skin may react more. However remember to a good electrologist your skin is as important as removing the hair.
Are you tweezing everyday or waxing every week? You probably think your hair grows very fast however ALL hair takes 6-12 weeks to regrow. So the hair you removed today is not what you removed yesterday or last week or even 2 weeks ago, it is from at least 6 weeks ago. If you wax every 4-6 weeks you are only seeing about half of your full hair growth. You would need to leave the hair for 3 months to see the full hair growth cycle. We needed to treat 2-4 cycles of hair grow for permanent removal (6-12 months).

Pre-Treatment
It is very important not to wax or tweeze the hair as this encourages the hair to become stronger. However you can cut, bleach or shave.

Things to consider – Before, During and After Treatment
Before
- Ideally, electrolysis requires 2-4mm of hair growth
- Don’t wax or tweeze the hair for a month or so before treatment. This allows the hair time to grow to a visible length.
- You can shave or trim the hair with scissors up to 3 or 4 days before your treatment. If electrolysis is for facial hair, you may wish to leave the final shave/cut until 48 hours before treatment.
Avoid bleaching your hair for 48 hours before treatment to avoid the risk of increased sensitivity.
During
Electrolysis is completely safe.
If you usually wear makeup and would like to do so on the day of treatment, this is perfectly fine. Our beauty therapist will gently remove any makeup over the treatment area before electrolysis can commence.
After an initial consultation, the therapist cleans your skin and adjusts the settings on the Apilus to suit the location and type of hair. Your therapist slips a minute probe into the hair follicle during the hair removal process, which you will not even feel. Then, an ultra-rapid current is applied. The therapist removes the hair with a pair of tweezers, encountering no resistance.
We always use gloves and disposable probes. We ensure the highest level of hygiene throughout to prevent infection. After treatment, we apply a soothing, antibacterial, moisturising balm to your skin to encourage healing.
After
- We recommend that you do not apply makeup to the treated area for at least 48 hours, but we realise this is not always possible. To minimise the risk of infection, ensure that you wash your hands and that your makeup brushes are clean before applying any makeup.
- If you want to wear makeup after electrolysis, ensure that you remove it at the end of the day with an unperfumed cleanser that is suitable for sensitive skin (recommendations below) and reapply a moisturising gel.
- Immediately after treatment and within the first 24 hours, you must leave your skin to recover. However, we recommend that you apply a soothing, hydrating gel (we have recommendations below).
- Avoid rich creams/moisturisers within the first 48 hours after electrolysis.
Avoid sun exposure where possible and ensure you wear a good sunscreen.
